Nancy Zeltsman

BIOGRAPHY

Nancy Zeltsman is a leading marimba performer, recording artist, teacher, author and festival director. She has premiered over 125 solo and chamber marimba works including pieces by Michael Tilson Thomas, Paul Simon, Gunther Schuller, Louis Andriessen, Carla Bley, Steven Mackey, Paul Lansky and Alejandro Viao. Zeltsman has presented recitals and marimba master classes across the U.S. and Europe, and in Japan, China, and Mexico.

She is Chair of the percussion department at Boston Conservatory at Berklee (since 2005), and a Professor at Berklee College of Music. Shes taught at both schools since 1993 when they created positions for her to teach marimba exclusively. In the fall of 2013, she was appointed regular guest professor of marimba at Conservatorium van Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Since 2001, she has been Artistic Director of Zeltsman Marimba Festival, Inc., a (mostly) annual, two-week, summer seminar and concert series. ZMF 2017 will take place at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ from July 2-15. Details will be available in early 2017 at www.ZMF.us.

Her recordings include three solo marimba CDs; three CDs with the marimba/violin duo Marimolin; William Thomas McKinleys marimba concerto recorded with Boston Modern Orchestra Project; and a duo marimba CD with Jack Van
Geem. Zeltsmans marimba method, Four Mallet Marimba Playing: A Musical Approach for All Levels, is published by Hal Leonard Corporation. “Intermediate Masterworks for Marimba,” two volumes containing 24 marimba solos commissioned (through ZMF, with support from about 200 people), is published by C.F. Peters Corporation and recorded on a double-CD on Bridge Records.
